Online Teaching Checklist

Over the previous year, educators have witnessed enormous changes in their online teaching patterns. The pandemic has resulted in a change in the way educators teach, and while some changes may be short-term, others are not. With the third wave approaching, and the cases increasing day by day, it is once again time for the tutors to look for effective ways to ensure that they deliver their students the right education. On the other hand, teaching institutions have also been drastically affected by this situation. It is very essential that schools now switch to online modes of teaching/ learning. Offline classes at this moment can be a very risky decision, especially with the crowded and unvaccinated students.

If you are wondering what is a checklist in teaching? Let us look at a few points to check if all these institutions as well as educators are prepared to handle the third wave better -

  1. Outline of the courses
  2. Innovate and stimulate discussions
  3. Encouraging peer learning
  4. Settling reasonable benchmarks and prioritizing needs
  5. Focusing on self-reflection and feedback
  6. Using the right set of feedback

1. Outline of the courses

Keeping or having a course outline ready beforehand can help you keep track of your courses. This will be helpful if you are taking up multiple classes at the same time.

2. Innovate and Stimulate Discussions

For making your online classes interesting and interactive, you must facilitate networking and communication among the students. For this, you can ask them to give introductions, and make use of icebreaker questions. One effective measure for this is creating a forum named “student lounge” where classmates communicate with each other regarding their college life, extracurriculars, internships and other programmes.

3. Encouraging Peer Learning

Peer learning facilitates interaction between classmates of the same standard that helps in ensuring better coordination. In fact, peer learning is one of the best practices of online teaching.  When there are forum posts, you must point out and show students the conflicting views. These conversations can help in facilitating peer learning when the class students join on either side.

4. Setting Reasonable Benchmarks and Prioritizing Needs

The teachers must accept that online classrooms are different from conventional classrooms. The goals must not be compared and you must understand that learning in any format should never overburden a child. To ensure this, educators must prioritize the needs of learning and that of the child.

5. Focusing on Self-Reflection and Feedback

Self-reflection is an old and most efficient method of self-analysis and advancement. You can improve yourself by taking feedback from the students and following the mentioned changes in your way of teaching.

6. Using the right set of gadgets

Having a laptop or a smartphone is enough but if you want to increase the video and audio quality manyfold, invest in a good microphone and video camera. To fix Technical issues you can refer to this article here.
